Process Explorer v12.03

Introduction

Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.

The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work.

And what's a great use of this great software is that it can be used to trace down any virus in your computer and gives you the ability to delete it from your pc manually.How to do it:quite simple first install and open the process explorer ,then browse down under the tab explorer.exe as all the files(non-system) including any virus is shown under this section with a pink colour (note no virus can be above explorer.exe).Double click on any such suspicious file and goto the threads section to view it's threads ,note the locations carefully.Now close it and right-click on the file and select kill process tree(this kills all the processes under that suspicious file,this is important as many times on attempting to delete suspicious file,an error crops up saying file being used by another user etc.,as it is true coz you cannot delete a file while it's running,killing process tree forcefully shuts down the activity of the file) now go manually to all the locations written under the threads window as said above,and delete them to clean your computer from the virus .

Nokia broadens legal battle vs Apple, includes iPad

Nokia, the world's top handset maker, broadened its patent battle against Apple on Friday to include the iPad, deepening the legal battle between the two smartphone rivals.

Nokia said it had filed a complaint in the Federal District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin, alleging that Apple's iPhone and iPad 3G products infringe five important Nokia patents.

The patents have not been covered in Nokia's previous actions against Apple. The two are in the midst of a major legal battle, which started last October when Nokia charged Apple for using its patented technologies without paying for them.

"The patents in question relate to technologies for enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space," Nokia said.

"These patented innovations are important to Nokia's success as they allow improved product performance and design," it said.

BlackBerry 'was first predicted 100 years ago'


BlackBerry, the leading smartphone device, had been predicted a century ago by an American physicist, it has been claimed.

Nikola Tesla made the prediction about the portable messaging service way back in 1909 in the Popular Mechanics magazine.

In the mag, he wrote that one day it would be possible to transmit wireless messages all over the world. He also predicted that the hand-held device would be simple to operate and one day, everyone in the world would communicate to friends using it.

The physicist believed that this would usher in a new era of technology.

The magazine's technology editor, Seth Porges, unveiled Tesla's prediction at a presentation to industry figures recently in New York. It was titled "108 years of futurism".

The magazine, published in January 1902, has nine international editions and a readership of millions today, and has always tried to anticipate the world of technology in the future.

"Nikola Tesla was able to predict technology which is still in its nascent forms a hundred years later," The Telegraph quoted Porges as saying.

"He talked a lot about his other great passion, which was wireless power.

"It has taken a little longer to get off the ground, but work on fascinating wireless conductive transmission is going on right now in research centres at MIT and Intel and other places," Porges added.

Nokia, Microsoft launch new mobile software

Nokia and Microsoft unveiled on Wednesday the first result of their new software collaboration aimed at breaking the dominance of Research in Motion's BlackBerry in wireless services for corporations.

Nokia and Microsoft, at one time fierce rivals in the mobile telecommunications business, announced the alliance in August 2009. They expect to offer Nokia phones running Microsoft's Office programmes later this year.

On Wednesday the companies unveiled Communicator Mobile software, which enables people to see their colleagues' availability, and click to communicate with them using instant messanger, e-mail, text or phone call.

The names and status of colleagues are embedded directly in the devices' contacts application. Owners of Nokia E52 and E72 models can download it as of today from Nokia's Ovi Store.

Now, nano-based technology that can make PCs, net hundreds of times faster

Communication devices will soon turn smaller, more flexible and more powerful, thanks to a nano-based technology that can make computers and the Internet hundreds of times faster.

Currently being created by Dr. Koby Scheuer of Tel Aviv University's School of Electrical Engineering, the communications technology "enabler" could only be used in five or ten years in the future.

Scheuer has developed a new plastic-based technology for the nano-photonics market, which manufactures optical devices and components.

The plastic-based "filter" is made from nanometer-sized grooves embedded into the plastic.

When used in fibre optics cable switches, the new device will make our communication devices smaller, more flexible and more powerful, he said.

"Once Americans have a fibre optics cable coming into every home, all communication will go through it - telephone, cable TV, the Internet. But to avoid bottlenecks of information, we need to separate the information coming through into different channels. Our polymeric devices can do that in the optical domain - at a speed, quality and cost that the semi-conductor industry can't even imagine," said Scheuer.

Every optical device used in today's communication tools has a filter.

Ten years from now, fibre optic cables that now run from city to city will feed directly into every individual home.

When that technology comes to light, the new plastic-based switches could revolutionize the way we communicate.

"Right now, we could transmit all of the written text of the world though a single fiber in a fiber optics cable in just a few seconds. But in order to handle these massive amounts of communication data, we need filters to make sense of the incoming information. Ours uses a plastic-based switch, replacing hard-to-fabricate and expensive semi-conductors," said Scheuer.

Semi-conductors, grown on crystals in sterile labs and processed in special ovens, take days and sometimes months to manufacture. They are delicate and inflexible as well, said Scheuer.

"Our plastic polymer switches come in an easy-to-work-with liquid solution. Using a method called 'stamping,' almost any laboratory can make optical devices out of the silicon rubber mold we've developed," he added.

The silicon rubber mould is scored with nano-sized grooves, invisible to the eye and each less than a millionth of a meter in width.

A plastic solution can be poured over the mould to replicate the optical switch in minutes.

When in place in a fibre-optic network, the grooves on the switch modulate light coming in through the cables, and the data is filtered and encoded into usable information.

The device can also be used in the gyros of planes, ships and rockets; inserted into cell phones; and made a part of flexible virtual reality gloves so doctors could "operate" on computer networks over large distances.

The study has been published in the journal Optics Express.
